I'm kinda short on time so I can't write too much about this.
I was mid , and i took Xerath vs. Ziggs so i could keep my range from him and harrass him from distance. I easily dodged his Q so it wasn't a big deal. The problem was my team that got me killed 2 times when i had 5-0-3 and decent creeps.
They just didn't wanna group in front of me so i can nuke them. They got to me too easily, so i decided to folow my team from a safe distance and start to fight only when they all engage. That's what i did and we won cause Xerath is a real monster when it comes to distance nuking. I had a good early cause i was buying wards all the time and put them on both sides of the river, so Shyvanas anks we're useless.
And for those that read this: Make sure that u don't give away that u have a ward too early. Try to stay safe, but play with their jungler like you have no ward. That way you're gonna make him lose exp while sitting in the bush, and not only that, he's gonna steal exp from his mid. That's a win-win situation for you. Of course don't be too naive and bring yourself in a situation where he will come out and kill you. That would be really bad. Always keep your eye on the minimap and GL.
